Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat blood vessel malformations (spider and varicose veins).

How does Sclerotherapy work?

In sclerotherapy, a state-of-the-art foam material is injected with a tiny needle into the vein that causes inflammation and the vein walls to collapse. Compression stockings are then used to make sure that the vein walls stay collapsed. The vein gradually dissolves over several weeks and ultimately disappears.

How long does the procedure take?

Sclerotherapy can be done in less than an hour at our medical spa.

Is the procedure painful?

When therapy is complete, patients will be able to get up and walk out of the clinic virtually pain and symptom free.

What are the side effects?

Though very rare, some patients experience minor side effects such as mild itching, temporary tenderness or mild bruising at the injection site. Hyperpigmentation is also a possibility which is a temporary discoloration of the skin along the vein in the injection area. This should fade in days or weeks.

How many treatments are required?

The sclerosing solution additionally closes the “feeder veins” under the skin that are causing the spider veins to form, thereby making a recurrence of the spider veins in the treated area less likely. It is our goal to treat the affected area with one single treatment though some patients may experience rare recurrences as result of the inevitable effects of aging veins.

How much will Sclerotherapy cost?

The cost of sclerotherapy varies depending on the size and how many spider veins are being treated.  At Southern Beauty Aesthetics medical spa we also understand how patients are managing their budgets, which is why we offer financing through CareCredit®.
